Fly nonstop from Dallas in the morning and be on the slopes by lunch? Yass, Snowmass! And being 15 minutes from the Aspen airport is not the only reason to whisk the family to this cozy Colorado mountain mecca. In mid-December, a chic $600 million base village opened after two decades as just a snowflake in ski fanatics’ eyes. The trendy new eateries, shops, outfitters and ski in/ski out Limelight Hotel are already transforming Aspen Snowmass. Ski Magazine’s 2019 Best of the West Resort of the Year is still family-friendly, but now those families are skewing millennial and cosmopolitan. Worried those tots in adorable snowsuits will slow you down? Don’t be — they ski and ride like fierce miniature pros.
There are flaming brick fire pits, aromas wafting from the Crepe Shack, Base Camp Bar and Grill’s 24-foot fire table (beneath a sky terrace that doubles as a dance club), the Limelight’s steamin’ party-size hot tub, and even a cheery skating rink with free admission and free skate rentals.
